The Ocean Curse 

Some still told stories of seeing merfolk, cresting above waves, glimmering skin and hair, luring sailors with their siren songs. Others whispered rumors of sea captains falling for mermaids and returning in search of them only to find an early grave at the bottom of the ocean. 

But a select few knew the truth—the real reason why merfolk no longer surfaced, remaining within their underwater hideaways. Destined to be forgotten and become lore.

Asherah was one of those, and she held onto the secret tightly. Because one day she would return home. Back to where her great-grandmother came from. Before she gained her legs and turned her back on her people. Before she fell for that sea captain who promised her forever but thoroughly under-delivered.
